I also use an alu bar for strictly XC, but I don't buy very top end stuff. I didn't think the extra 50g were worth $80.

And yeah, as I'm not sponsored, I liked my bars to continue to work after a single crash. I broke an Easton XC90 flat bar by barely clipping it on a tree, whereas my friend has dropped his bike off his car going 50mph and it landed squarely on his Titec bars, and they are still fine.

I'm strictly XC and I just put on a new aluminum handlebar. That way I don't have to worry if I wipe out and smack the handlebar on something hard and sharp.

For DH? Not really. Carbon MTB bars are only really prevalent in XC.
